Unleash your inner sharpshooter with our Dota 2 Muerta Guide

Muerta is a relentless gunslinger with a dangerous repertoire of abilities. She is a master of death who stalks the realms of life, capturing targets with frightening trick shots and summoning revenants to suffocate her enemies. This Hero combines intelligence and agility to create a formidable force on the battlefield.

Muerta is a ranged Intelligence Hero with an average HP of 538 and a modest Mana pool of 363. Her base attack damage ranges between 48-56, and she starts off with a base movement speed of 295. Although she starts with a slightly low base armor of 2.3, her long-range abilities help keep her out of direct combat.

Playing as Muerta demands sharp shooting skills and keen map awareness. With abilities designed for long-range precision and crowd control, she is well-suited as a damage dealer and is particularly deadly in one-on-one encounters. If played well, she can control fights and take out enemies before they can even react.

Abilities

Dota 2 Muerta Guide

To learn how to play with the deadly Hero, Let's first dive into Muerta's killer abilities.

  • Dead Shot – Muerta launches a ghostly trickshot towards an opposing unit or tree. When the bullet strikes, it damages and briefly slows before ricocheting in the intended direction. The ricochet damages all units it travels through until coming to a halt when it hits a Hero. Heroes who are hit by ricochets are feared away from the impact. Deadshot deals 70 damage at level 1, increasing to 300 at max level. It slows for -100% upon impact and lasts for 0.5 seconds at all levels.
  • The Calling –  Summons a group of 4 revenants that slowly circle the targeted location. Enemies nearby are slowed, and their attack speed is decreased. Revenants deal damage and silence enemies as they pass through them. At level 1, The Calling lasts for 7 seconds while dealing 45 damage, and at max level, it lasts 10 seconds while dealing 180 damage. The Calling also has a silence duration lasting 1.5 seconds at level 1 and increasing to 3 seconds at max level.
  • Gunslinger – Muerta's attacks can fire a second shot at another target, prioritizing Heroes. At level 1, the chance of a second shot is 20%, increasing to 50% at max level. Gunslinger is a significant boost to her damage output.
  • Pierce The Veil – This is the ultimate ability of Muerta. She transforms, becoming immune to physical damage, and her attack damage is all dealt as magical damage. She gains bonus attack damage as well as phased movement. Additionally, she can attack ethereal units but does not do damage to Magic Immune targets. Piers Of The Veil lasts for 6 seconds at level 1, which increases to 8 seconds at level 3. It gives bonus attack damage of 50 at level 1 and 150 at max level.

    • Aghanim’s Shard Upgrade – During Pierce the Veil, Muerta obtains 30.0% Spell Lifesteal. She gains 2% spell amplification every time she kills an enemy Hero or they die in her vicinity while Pierce the Veil is active.

    • Aghanim’s Scepter Upgrade (Parting Shot) – Muerta accurately shoots a Hero's soul, separating it from their physical body and knocking it back 150 units. For 4 seconds, the soul is untargetable, silenced, disarmed, and invulnerable. The body is stunned and has a 50.0% damage reduction for this duration. Even if the Hero is killed, the soul will live on until the effect ends. Parting Shot deals 300 damage and has a knockback distance of 150.

Dota 2 Muerta Guide – Tips

As Muerta, your role is to deal as much damage as possible from a safe distance. Dead Shot is a significant harassment tool, and its ricochet can be used for sniping enemies behind their lines. The Calling is crucial in team fights, providing crowd control, slow and damage. Gunslinger is a passive ability that boosts your attack damage, target prioritization and farm. Finally, your ultimate, Pierce The Veil, allows you to go all-in with increased damage and protection against physical attacks.

Muerta is usually played as a safe-lane carry or mid-laner, using her range and damage to dominate the lane. With careful positioning and constant harassment, you can control your lane and build a solid lead.

Remember that, as a carry, your main goal early in the game is to secure last hits and farm up your core items. You will need both experience and farm to be effective in the game. You would want to buy items that deal damage and also save yourself. The gunslinger usually doesn't buy any aura items. Her ability to farm effectively is also one of her key strengths. She can swiftly wipe out creep waves with Dead Shot and The Calling. Additionally, take advantage of Gunslinger to take down neutral camps quickly.

How to play Muerta

Understanding the different stages of the game and how to adapt is essential for mastering Muerta. Let’s take a closer look.

Starting Items

Starting with a set of Tangoes, Healing Salve, and Iron Branches will give you the early game sustain and cheap stats you need. A Null Talisman or a couple of Mantles of Intelligence will provide you with a much-needed boost in Mana and damage. A Faerie Fire can provide the last-minute Health boost that can turn an early game fight to your favor.

Early Game

In the early stages, prioritize last-hitting creeps for gold and leverage your Dead Shot ability for poking enemies from a safe distance. Upon reaching level 6, your ultimate ability, Pierce The Veil, becomes available. This ability not only increases your attack damage but also converts it to magical, helping you deal significant damage to enemies.

For early game itemization, consider getting Power Treads for added attack speed and stats. A Bottle can be a great purchase if you're mid-laning for rune control. A Magic Wand is also a great buy if the enemies are often using spells.

Mid Game

As the mid game sets in, it's time to ramp up your aggression. Engage in team fights and skirmishes using your The Calling to silence, slow and damage multiple enemies, and then chain with Dead Shot for amplified damage. Remember to utilize Pierce The Veil for bonus damage and physical immunity, making you an intimidating presence in engagements. Your Gunslinger helps you to farm fast as well.

For mid-game items, Dragon Lance is excellent as it boosts your stats and, importantly, increases your attack range. This allows you to engage from a safer distance. Next, buy Maelstorm to increase your farming speed and deal some additional magic damage. If the enemy team has significant crowd control, a Black King Bar (BKB) is a must-buy to ensure you can freely use your abilities in team fights. After BKB, Manta Style should be your target item. Meanwhile, tell your team to break the Tormentor so you might get a Aghanim’s Shard for free.

Late Game

In the late game, your role evolves into a potent damage dealer. Stick with your team and aim to eliminate key enemy Heroes with your high damage output. Keep using your abilities to control the flow of fights, instilling fear into the enemy team with well-placed Dead Shots and perfectly timed uses of Pierce The Veil.

In terms of late-game items, consider Daedalus for enhanced critical damage or Butterfly for increased evasion, attack speed, and damage. A Satanic can be the difference-maker in late-game fights with its lifesteal and survival active ability. Upgrade your Maeltstorm to Mjollnir or Gleipnir and Dragon Lance to Hurricane Pike. If the game prolongs, consider an Octarine Core for reduced cooldowns and additional spell lifesteal or a Scythe of Vyse for extra crowd control. Finally, sell your Boots and buy a Refresher Orb.

Dota 2 Muerta Counters

Here are some Heroes that can give the sharpshooter a tough time.

  • Pugna – Pugna’s Nether Ward can cause significant damage to the gunslinger due to her high Mana cost abilities, while Decrepify can protect Pugna or his allies from her right-click attacks.
  • Anti-Mage – Anti-Mage’s Mana Break and Mana Void can be devastating against the gunslinger, who relies heavily on her Mana pool. Counterspell also provides significant resistance against her abilities.
  • Silencer – Silencer's Global Silence can shut down Muerta's abilities during crucial moments in team fights. His arcane curse is also a deadly ability for her.
  • Phantom Assassin – Phantom Assassin’s high evasion from Blur reduces Muerta's auto-attack effectiveness. Additionally, Phantom Assassin's physical burst damage via Coup de Grace can quickly take down the relatively low-armored gunslinger before she can react.
