Rumor: Netflix to Produce Overwatch and Diablo Series

Overwatch and Diablo are getting TV adaptations.

Thanks to the Linkedin profile of Nick van Dyk, co-president of Activision, Blizzard Studios has revealed we’ll be getting Netflix series’ for Overwatch and Diablo.

We currently have no official news on the style of the show. Although, van Dyk’s profile does suggest the Diablo series will be “rendered in anime style”. Which could see it look like Netflix’s other animated gaming adaptation Castlevania. The info would also lead us to assume the Diablo series will come out first with the profile stating it’s already in pre-production.

Nick van Dyk later goes on to give more details about the project.

“With my creative partner, developed and sold an animated series based on Blizzard's Overwatch franchise.”

An Overwatch series has been rumored in the past. With Blizzard’s use of CGI animated shorts across all their universes,’ fans have been clambering for something.

With no confirmed details for the series and no release dates for either Overwatch 2 or Diablo 4. These latest projects could yet be a long way away. Blizzard’s annual convention, BlizzCon, will likely not until September. As a result, it might be a long time until we get any more info than this.

The leak might cause Blizzard to come forward with some kind of announcement. But if the show has nothing to show for itself it’s likely not even possible. On top of that, with the series being handled by Netflix, they’ll have their own agenda about when to release series.

The shows would also add to Netflix’s growing catalog of gaming-related series. With the aforementioned Castlevania, The Witcher, Minecraft Story Mode plus countless Pokémon shows and movies. Netflix also became a popular home for another Blizzard IP with the Warcraft movie finding a new home on the platform.
