Fortnite: FNCS Champions Receive Exclusive In-Game Pickaxe

FNCS Champions received the rarest pickaxe in Fortnite history.

One of the allures of Fortnite: Battle Royale is in its skins, emotes, back bling, glider and pickaxes. These items are attainable via the seasonal Battle Passes and are also purchasable from the Fortnite Item Shop. Rare items are few and far between, considering that most are purchasable through the Item Shop. That was the case until now. Fortnite Champion Series Chapter 2 Season 2 winners received an exciting gift in their locker after the competition concluded.

The Axe of Champions

NA East FNCS Champion Williams “Zayt” Aubin took to Twitter with an intriguing discovery after loading into Fortnite: Battle Royale. An insanely rare item known as The Axe of Champions greeted him in all of its golden glory. It is a pickaxe which sports the Fortnite Champion Series logo at the top and an Epic rarity grade.

Although the $44K USD that Zayt and duo partner Rocco “Saf” Morales received was a nice reward, this pickaxe is priceless. Only 28 of these pickaxes exist in the entire world over seven regions. The console and PC winners in the Middle East, Asia, Europe, NA East, NA West, Brazil and Oceania regions all received The Axe of Champions their victories.

The need for more exclusive items

Reddit user Spud_Lite won the NA East Console FNCS and shared a picture of how the pickaxe looks in-game. The Axe of Champions is one of the coolest additions to Fortnite in quite some time. There are some rare pickaxes out there like Raider’s Revenge, which has been absent from the Item Shop since October of 2017. The FNCS Champion pickaxe is much different, however, considering its rarity and the difficulty in obtaining it.

Achieving victory in the Fortnite Champion Series is not easy regardless of the region or platform. The Grand Finals feature the best players in each area, and we can’t ignore the grind required to qualify. There have only been three FNCS events thus far, and a handful of winners should be able to represent their successful endeavors as they farm for materials and eliminate opponents.

Hopefully, Epic Games will continue to offer these in-game rewards for tournament champions on top of their astounding prize pools. After Epic Games announced the FNCS Invitational yesterday, players may be more motivated with a $2M USD prize pool and The Axe of Champions up for grabs.
